Cinematographers, especially good ones, I find very interesting. Usually you can kind of gauge what a film might be like ( good ) if you know who the director of photography is attached to the movie. Good ones, the top lensers, have strong track records from good quality films and have usually been Oscar nominated. Here is what several top dp's in the business are currently working on.
* Robert Elswit- The man who won the Oscar for best cinematography for There Will Be Blood, is currently lensing Ben Affleck's second directorial effort, The Town which he plunged right into directly after shooting Angelina Jolie's next film Salt for director Phillip Noyce.
* Roger Deakins- A Serious Man is slowing making it's release dates in America, and he just finished The Company Men with Tommy Lee Jones, Kevin Costner, Ben Affleck and Chris Cooper, and then will re-team again with the Coen Brothers ( after many collaborations ) later this year.
* Dion Beebe- The Oscar winner for Chicago, just finished another big musical Nine, and is currently filming the third Narnia film.
* Dante Spinotti- After coming off of lensing Michael Mann's Public Enemies, he has signed on with director Martin Campbell to shoot The Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds and Jackie Earle Haley.
* Anthony Dod Mantle- Last year's Oscar winner for Slumdog, shot this year's most controversial film AntiChrist, which is taking a critical beating, and is now shooting in Hungary for Kevin Macdonald ( The Last King Of Scotland, State Of Play ) on the 14 AD Roman adventure film The Eagle and The Ninth.
