Michael Douglas has made a statement saying the Liberace biopic for director Steven Soderbergh that he had slated on his itinerary before his cancer scare and the film is still a go.
In remission and admitting that he feels good, 2010 may have been the most memorable in his life on many fronts. First career wise, it may have been his best, with many critics lauding his performance in Solitary Man and already earning a National Board Of Review Best Actor nomination for it with maybe more nominations forthcoming. Then turning out best in show in the Wall Street sequel. Round out that he had to deal with throat cancer and his son was sent to prison all in the same year. It will be one he will never forget.
Now he says he feel strong enough to give the portrayal a go as he laments “I’ve got a bunch of tapes of performances. I’m thinking; I’m a blank slate. Everything shows me he was a lovely man; I just want to reconfirm that.”
Recently The Hollywood Reporter also reports that shooting is scheduled to begin in May or June of next year, which confirms Matt Damon’s claim earlier this year that he was planning to shoot the film next summer. Damon will play Liberace’s lover Scott Thorson.
