Christian Bale and Brad Anderson to reunite

Scuttlebutt around Hollywood has it that director Brad Anderson ( Transsiberian, Happy Accidents ) will reunite with his The Mechanic ( 2004 ) star Christian Bale. This teaming will see them tackling an adaptation of the 1974 J.G. Ballard novel Concrete Island.

The premise is a twisted adaptation of Robinson Crusoe, the story's protagonist, Robert Maitland ( Bale ), a wealthy architect, finds himself stranded in a manmade 'island' (a section of fenced-off wasteland in the middle of a motorway intersection) between the Westway and M4 Motorway in West London, forced to survive on only what is in his crashed Jaguar and what he is able to find. As his condition degrades, it soon becomes difficult to determine whether Maitland is finding sanity or watching his mind fall apart as he finds companions on the island and eventually decides to remain there and forsake his former life.

Many remember the drastic weight loss Bale accomplished for The Mechanic, dropping to 120 pounds, and literally scaring everyone involved on the film, including director Anderson. Rumor has it that Bale will lose the weight for this role as well. We sure can appreciate his level of commitment, but this can't be good for his overall health especially long term. At least people can't say that Bale doesn't put in 120% effort for a role

Scott Kosar, who wrote The Mechanic will adapt the screenplay. No word on a filming start date, as Concrete Island will most likely prep in pre-production while Bale shoots The Dark Knight Rises this spring.

Started to really pay attention to film ( movies ) what was going on in front of the camera, but more interestingly, behind it as well at about as far back as age 10. Motion pictures ( when good ) are a fascinating medium. All the work and prep that goes into filmmaking. It's an amazing process !
