Torture porn leads box office ( ho-hum )

It's hard for me to get my head around, but shouldn't really surprise me, that Saw 6 was the leader at the box office this last weekend pulling in 24.2 million dollars. Crushing Clint Eastwood's Hereafter that made 6.42 million and Secretariat which brought in 5.01 million. Films that have pretty good critical approval rating's as well.

It's always perplexing to me that people would pass up highly well made films by prolific filmmakers instead to see a slasher flick that's the 6th in the franchises series. Mind boggling. Even if I was 18, I wouldn't have went to Saw. I'm not a film elistist either. Just what does that kind of film offer you ? I still remember what films I was drawn to at that age. But there's quite a lot of people that supposedly are into that kind of thing. Kind of disturbing if you really think about it. Those films banal and vacant, but just mindless violence scene after scene. What is attractive about that ? I don't get it. Probably never will.

I don't get it either. Most are plotless and who wants to see random violence scene after scene ?And for the record I loved both Hereafter and Secretariat !

Started to really pay attention to film ( movies ) what was going on in front of the camera, but more interestingly, behind it as well at about as far back as age 10. Motion pictures ( when good ) are a fascinating medium. All the work and prep that goes into filmmaking. It's an amazing process !
