Nine Preview/Synopsis

Nine Nov. 25

Directed by Oscar nominee Rob Marshall ( Chicago, The Memoirs Of A Geisha ) Starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Sophia Loren and Stacy " Fergie " Ferguson. Written by Oscar winner Anothony Minghella ( The English Patient ) Cinematography by Oscar winner Dion Beebe ( Chicago, Collateral ) Editing by Oscar winner Claire Simpson ( Platoon, The Constant Gardener ) Original music by Maury Yeston ( who scored many of the Broadway shows )

Nine is inspired by Fellini's 8 1/2 and adapted from the popular Broadway musical, from the story about a film director, Guido Contini ( Day-Lewis ) who is feeling like he is either having a nervous breakdown or is in a midlife crisis ( both ? ) and has had his creative juices stuck in a rut. Guido doesn't know how to finish his current project, finishing his film, and matters do not get easier when during this struggle, he encounters all of the women in his life that mean anything to him... his wife, his mistress, his muse, his agent and his mother, all the while, trying to balance them all out and still finish his film. Much ado about everything.

PG-13 ( For sexual content and smoking ) 122 min.

Oscar chances ? Could be the Oscar nomination leader. The cast boasts 6 past Oscar winning actors, one Golden Globe winner ( Hudson ) and one Grammy winner ( Fergie ) not to mention many past Oscar winner's in the technical categories as well. Many will flock to the film because it's a musical, some will see it out of pure curiosity to see Day-Lewis act again, let alone sing for the first time in his career. It's going to get nominations, no if, ands or buts, because the Academy loves this genre and also they like to see actors take chances ( ala the singing and dancing ) and on top of that, they ( Oscar voters ) are very familiar with the cast, as they were the ones that had voted them for their past Oscar wins.

This looks fantabulous. I can wait to see all these actors singing and dancing. Especially Day-Lewis !

Started to really pay attention to film ( movies ) what was going on in front of the camera, but more interestingly, behind it as well at about as far back as age 10. Motion pictures ( when good ) are a fascinating medium. All the work and prep that goes into filmmaking. It's an amazing process !
