Rent this: Requiem For A Dream

Released in 2000 and directed by Darren Aronofsky ( The Wrestler, The Fountain ) that is based from the 1978 Hubert Selby,Jr. book, is a harrowing but very realistic look into different types of drug addiction that lead the main characters in a world of delusion. The main cast of Jared Leto, Ellen Burstyn, Jennifer Connelly, Marlan Wayans and Louise Lasser in the principal roles are all well acted, but it's Ellen Burstyn who steals the movie. I feel she was robbed of not winning the best actress Oscar ( to Julia Roberts for Erin Brockovich ) because her work in this film is outstanding. The direction is tight and the camera work from director of photography Matthew Libatique, is very cutting edge.

It's not a happy story but it's very enthralling storytelling nonetheless. Once the drugs wear off the main characters and their delusions wear away, they find out they are in a much deeper hell then they ever truly realized. Very realistic. I feel it's one of the top 10 of that year. Excellent film.

That one was one of my faves of that year. Really showed the range that Leto could really act. And Burstyn is great.

Great flick in all aspects of filmmaking and acting.

About Me

My photo
Started to really pay attention to film ( movies ) what was going on in front of the camera, but more interestingly, behind it as well at about as far back as age 10. Motion pictures ( when good ) are a fascinating medium. All the work and prep that goes into filmmaking. It's an amazing process !
