Public Enemies Preview/Synopsis

Public Enemies July 1

Edgar Hoover ) Channing Tatum ( Pretty Boy Floyd ) Stephen Graham ( Baby Face Nelson ) Giovani Ribisi ( Alvin Karpis ) David Wenham ( Pete Pierpont ) Stephen Dorff ( Homer Van Meter ) Lily Taylor ( Sheriff Lillian Holley ) Shawn Hatosy ( John Madala ) with Rory Cochran, James Russo, Stephen Lang, John Ortiz, Leelee Sobieski, Spencer Garrett, Carey Mulligan. Written by Mann, Ronan Barrett and Ann Binderman ( Primal Fear ) Cinematography by Oscar nominee Dante Spinotti ( The Insider, LA Confidential ) Editng by Jeffrey Ford ( Breach, One Hour Photo ) Original Music by Oscar winner Elliot Goldenthal ( Frida, Interview With The Vampire )

Story goes back to the depression era early 1930's, when head of the FBI, J. Edgar Hoover, assembled a band of renegade agent's to capture Pulic Enemy # 1 ( which were bank robbers Dillinger, Nelson and Floyd ) and the rest of their cronies.

Rated R for gangster violence and language. 143 min.

Oscar chances ? Looks like it could be a Oscar type of movie with all assembled, but I'm feeling more of a summer popcorn movie. Many who have screened it say Cotillard's performance is electric and the best of the whole film. If it did stand any chances for Oscar attention, I'd say you can never count Johnny Depp out. Possibles for Art Direction, Editing and Cinematography. If Billy Crudup really engulfs himself as Hoover, he could be a possibility in Supporting Actor.

Film recieved mix reviews at the Berlin Film Festival, but many are predicting Oscar nominations for Pfeiffer and Bates, and say it's Pfeiffer's best work in a decade.

About Me

My photo
Started to really pay attention to film ( movies ) what was going on in front of the camera, but more interestingly, behind it as well at about as far back as age 10. Motion pictures ( when good ) are a fascinating medium. All the work and prep that goes into filmmaking. It's an amazing process !
